Naturally, upon hearing that the Safari zone would feature Eevee, Florian had to purchase a ticket right away.

He's grateful that Joli isn't jealous as his trainer fawns over the promotional pictures and daydreams about owning an entire group of the little fluffball's evolutions. Really, it's lucky there's a path to follow, otherwise Florian was liable to bump headfirst into a tree.

"Oh, a Leafeon would be amazing," he hums. "Or a Glaceon! And Flareon are so fluffy..."

He's so enraptured by the safari brochure that he almost steps on the tail of the first Eevee who wanders into their path!

It's Joli who sets him straight, letting out a cheeky chirp and jumping up to knock the pamphlet from his trainers hand. Florian's astonished, turning a sharp eye on his partner as if to scold him... but then he spots the Eevee at his feet, and his heart puddles.

"Ah, hello," he croons, crouching down. He offers a hand for it to sniff, then cards his fingers through the fluffy white mane with the Pokemon's permission. It's a real sweetheart. He feeds it berries from his palm, not caring that it's a messy eater who gets berry juice all over his fingers, and grins over at Joli when the Sylveon offers him a smug look.

"Yes, thank you, Joli, for making sure I did not step on our new friend."

Meowstic was adorable, and unbeknownst to Florian, that's exactly what this one relied upon. As the professor stopped to admire the fluffy psychic cat, it suddenly turns around and sucker punches his Sylveon!

Even Joli seems startled, albeit not very hurt. He stumbles back from the offender and bares his sharp canines in silent threat. Florian's not entirely sure what to do: he doesn't want to pick a fight with the Safari Pokemon, but this one had hurt his partner!

In the beat it takes for him to mull over a decision, the Meowstic grows bored, yawning and prancing off.

Joli makes to follow it, but only gets a few steps before he suddenly slumps forward, asleep. Florian can't help but giggle as he kneels down next to his partner, squeezing the juice of a chesto into his mouth.

Florian has to restrain himself from rushing the Chansey when he sees it, excitement toward one of his favourite non-fairy-type Pokemon clashing with the goal he'd set for himself upon buying his ticket: Eevee only. They were incredibly rare, hard to acquire. He was not here for anything else.

Joli, perhaps sensing his trainer's internal dilemma, flicks his large ears and cants his head in confusion.

"I know, Joli, but we can't," Florian insists. "Quick, before she sees us — I-I wouldn't want to get attached, or to hurt her feelings..."

So they rush off like the fools they were, Florian's pamphlet fluttering in the wind of their sprint.

Florian, and indeed the Sylveon who'd been the target of an assault, is far more wary of the second Meowstic that they spot among the confines of the safari.

It is clearly a different specimen, with fur predominantly white rather than blue, but he hesitates all the same.

"Let's... just avoid that way for now, no?"

His Sylveon does not need to hear such a suggestion twice: he bounds ahead of his trainer in his eagerness to put as much distance between himself and the psychic feline as possible.

A seemingly discarded apple in the grass wriggles, and Florian points excitedly.

"Ah, Joli, look! It is one of those Applin we saw with alec foster !"

He spares a thought for the young trainer, wonders how he's getting along in his quest to become the champion of the Hoenn region. Did he have any badges yet?

Florian shakes his head to regain his focus: he's here hunting Eevee! They'll be here for hours if he doesn't pull it together and continue the search. He waves farewell to the apple-dragon.

"... and I've been wanting to put a little pond in the garden," Florian is gushing to his Sylveon, who is either listening or feigning interest very effectively, "because now we've got a few water-types to look after and I feel bad having them hang out in the bathtub when they're out of their balls. So I was thinking, if I do get the pond, a Vaporeon would be perfect to hang out in there..."

This time, the energetic duo miss the Budew altogether, thanks in part to Florian's rambling.
